Scanning Ocean Sectors (SOS) has a number of courses that run throughout the year in the UK, Australia and South Africa. We also provide corporate training for company’s world wide.

We provide specialised training in acoustics, PAM techniques which are applicable to
all PAM systems, marine mammal biology, marine mammal behaviour and specialist whale/dolphin watching tours/holidays.

Companies

As companies develop they find it easier to have SOS come to them and run a Marine Mammal Observer and Passive Acoustic Monitoring training course rather than send employees to us. This training is suitable for around 8 to 25 staff in total and can be set in their own region which saves the expense of flights and accommodation for each member of your company staff as well as time away from their work. If the number of staff to be trained is larger than this we will tailor the training to fit around the company. Please contact us to talk about the options.

We can customise the courses to provide basic training for crew members, intensive training for other members of staff who will be the primary MMO, and the PAM operators on the vessel too.

Colleges & Universities

SOS can provide the MMO or PAM training course for a number of small colleges or universities wishing to provide our training service for limited numbers.

Group Training

SOS provides specialised training for small groups at either our training locations or at your office anywhere in the world. We will tailor the course to the requirements of your company, e.g. windfarm erections, demolition, dredging and more. We can make the courses more intense if you wish to reduced the loss of work time.

Assessment

Our certification levels are formulated the same way as city and guilds/university degrees are. There are three levels of SOS certification, PASS, CREDIT and DISTINCTION. With these levels you get a clear understanding of how much effort your MMO or PAM operator has put into the training.
